Questions
Frequently asked questions
When should you call on an architect?
As early as possible: before buying a place, or as soon as a group is formed. That is when an outside eye helps to ask the right questions about the site, the brief and the budget.
Is using an architect compulsory?
For a private individual building for themselves, it is as soon as a project requiring a building permit (permis de construire) exceeds 150 m² of floor area, extension included. Below that, an architect remains useful for the design and site supervision. We will tell you from the first conversation whether your project is concerned.
Do you work outside the Drôme?
Yes. The studio is based in Crest, but supports collective projects all over France, often in the “nomadic architect” format, in residence on the site.
What is the “nomadic architect” format?
The architect comes to live with the group for a few days, generally between 3 and 6 days, to design the project on site: getting to know the place and its residents better, and responding to needs such as the sharing of common spaces, privacy or welcoming the public.
How do I present my project to you?
The simplest way is an email with a few photos of the place and a short description of your project. We will then arrange a phone call.
Which materials do you favour?
Ecological, bio-based and, where possible, local materials: timber, straw, earth renders, wood fibre, cellulose wadding. The choice always depends on the place, what already exists and the budget.
How are the fees set?
By proposal, after a first study of the project and what is at stake. The service can be partial (meeting, feasibility study, building permit) or full, through to completion.
