Karma Ling, Avallon eco-site: studies in residence
Feasibility studies for the Avallon eco-site (Karmaling), a Tibetan Buddhist retreat centre in the heart of the Belledonne massif, carried out on site in the nomadic architect format.
01 — The brief
The Avallon eco-site, located in the heart of the Belledonne massif at Arvillard, is one of the largest Buddhist retreat centres in France: a place of renewal and meditation in a remarkable, preserved natural setting.
02 — The response
Several studies have focused on this site. A first feasibility study concerned the renovation of the former Charterhouse and of the current reception centre, “Dewatchen”. A second study was carried out for the complete renovation of two retreat centres.
03 — In short
The studies were carried out on site, in the nomadic architect format.
